A park for all seasons - A market square, not for goods, but for leisure and entertainment, eating and drinking, relaxing and having fun.

London Squares are traditionally inward facing, used predominantly in good weather and defined by a hard boundary separating them from the street, disconnecting the green space from the wider city. The most successful urban public spaces however are a centre of activity, used all year round and stitched into the wider urban fabric forming an integral part of the city. These outward facing spaces are active, open and welcoming. A market place, a plaza, or a town square, they typically have soft boundaries, are devoid of cars, have a sense of enclosure and protection from the elements. Importantly they have a changing programme of uses and activity to be enjoyed all year round.

The concept aims to transform Grosvenor Square by providing these urban qualities through a series of simple moves. Removing the outer physical barriers and fence line creating a permeable and inviting public space which is allowed to bleed into to wider city, and vice versa. A canopy roof to provide enclosure, shade and protection from the elements to create a space that is usable despite bad weather. Reducing car movements to create a people focused space that is better connected to the buildings that surround it. Inserting a series of uses, functions and events to create a an active, urban and usable public space.
