River Court
Canterbury
House extension
A modern charred-timber extension that redefines the home’s relationship with the River Stour.
The property occupies a prime location overlooking the River Stour near Canterbury yet the original home turned its back on the river. The extension is a simple rectangular form clad in a rich and tactile charred timber to give it a singular and monolithic appearance that deliberately contrasts the brick house. The roof form extends out to provide shading to the patio doors opening up the home to the garden and redefining its relationship with the river. The extension contains a dining room which connects with a relocated kitchen, with the old kitchen and previous extension containing a new laundry and utility room.
