House extension

A contemporary addition to a dated house to create a contemporary family home.

The extension is expressed as two simple intersecting forms which define the function of the open internal spaces, the larger volume to the rear contains the dining space and the smaller volume to the front the kitchen.

The intersecting forms also provide a subtle variation in the external form of the extension which is clad in an open jointed larch cladding running both vertically and horizontally to further articulate the the two forms.

The design significantly improves the liveability and practicality of the family home with the ground floor re-planned. The layout creates a large open plan kitchen/ dining room that forms the social heart of the home, a new and clear and logical circulation route around the house that connects all the key spaces, a strong sense of arrival with direct views through the house and to the garden beyond and consolidated and functional and utility spaces that address the practical family needs.
